Hi, I'm Steve Pavilanis, the creator of Beat Small Stakes.

I'm just a normal guy with a wife, a career and a mortgage, living in the middle of the U.S.

As for the professional stuff, I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and have worked as a Quality Assurance Engineer since 2001 for a number of Fortune 500 companies.

When it comes to poker, I am NOT a world class player.

Nobody in the poker world has ever heard of me, but I've been quietly crushing live small stakes NL Hold'em cash games since the original poker boom twenty years ago.

Like many, my introduction to poker was watching the 2003 World Series of Poker on ESPN. I became obsessed, and started by playing the smallest game online at the time, 10¢/25¢ NL with a $25 buy-in on each table.

I lost for a while, but I'm kind of stubborn, so I read every book I could find and climbed up from the micro stakes to 4-tabling $10/$20 NL with a $2,000 buy-in on each table about a year later.

I had a lot of fun and even quit my lucrative tech job for a while to play full time, but returned to my career and kept poker as a side hustle. When online poker dried up in 2011, shifted my focus to live poker, and I couldn't believe how easy the games were.

Over the years, live poker has evolved and become much more aggressive, but it's still extremely beatable... with the right approach.

And that's what this website is all about. Years ago, I taught a few friends how to play with my approach, which I call "Controlled Chaos", and their results were honestly incredible. So with some encouragement, this website was born.

The goal of Beat Small Stakes is to teach any amateur how to use my "Controlled Chaos" approach to completely run over small stakes games and book huge wins, without relying on luck or good cards.
